"We are the TE in STEM"
Building a NCMS STEM Community
“We are the TE in STEM”
The slogan “We are the TE in STEM” means that Technology Education is part of the puzzle that completes the picture and demonstrates the importance of math and science and how it is applied in real world applications. The Technology Education arena is a great way for students to use those math and science skills and takes away that “Why do we need to learn this”, attitude. It is every student’s right to question meaning and usefulness and it is up to the educational community to provide answers and a vehicle for students to express themselves in a meaningful way.
As a Technology Education Teacher working for the town of Cumberland it is my role to create that vehicle for expression. It is not a vehicle with four wheels and highway but a classroom, lab, club, after school program or just a way for students to communicate their ideas effectively to each other and create something tangible. Just as it is my expectation that all students evolve into something better and to continue to raise their expectations; the program as North Cumberland Middle School is always evolving into something better and as a teacher I am raising my expectations of the program.
The new technology education classroom is just that vehicle to make STEM a reality at NCMS. I am excited to open this classroom for the 2011-2012 school year. There will be a variety of programs and thematic units such as designing and bridge construction, 3D architectural design, computer literacy. Also, a variety of clubs will include video production, yearbook, and robotics.
